Job Description

We are seeking an experienced manager to lead our Quality Assurance function in a high-precision aerospace machining environment. This is a hands-on leadership role focused on managing a small team of inspectors, ensuring full compliance with AS9100D , and developing and executing robust inspection plans for aerospace-grade machined components. This role is ideal for a quality leader who thrives in a detail-driven, production-integrated environment and leads by example.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the Quality Inspection Team (1-2 teammates), overseeing daily operations, setting priorities, training personnel, and ensuring accurate, timely completion of all in-process and final inspections for tight-tolerance aerospace machined components .
  • Develop, implement, and maintain detailed inspection plans and procedures tailored to machined part features, including First Article Inspections (FAI to AS9102C), receiving inspection, and in-process dimensional verification.
  • Own and manage the AS9100D Quality Management System (QMS) — ensuring compliance through proper documentation control, audit readiness, and alignment with clauses related to production controls, risk management, and continuous improvement.
  • Perform and oversee CMM inspections , programming (CMM manager or similar experience preferred), and interpretation of complex GD&T requirements from engineering drawings and models.
  • Coordinate and conduct internal audits, supplier audits , and customer audits , ensuring findings are documented and corrective actions implemented per AS9100 requirements.
  • Collaborate closely with Engineering, Production, and Programming teams to integrate quality control checkpoints and inspection gates into the manufacturing process, reducing rework and improving yield.
  • Lead root cause investigations and drive effective Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA) , ensuring sustainable resolutions and compliance with AS9100D nonconformance management.
  • Maintain and analyze key Quality KPIs , including scrap rates, first-pass yield, and inspection throughput, using data to identify areas for improvement and support Lean initiatives.
  • Ensure traceability and configuration control across all product lines, managing inspection records, NCRs, calibration logs, and quality documentation in line with customer and regulatory requirements.
  • Serve as the quality subject matter expert during customer visits, audits, and technical reviews, representing the organization with professionalism and confidence.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or equivalent combination of technical training and aerospace machining quality experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of quality assurance experience in a precision machining aerospace environment , including 3+ years in a leadership or supervisory role .
  • Deep knowledge of AS9100D, ISO 9001, and industry-specific quality standards related to high-precision manufacturing.
  • Strong understanding of tight-tolerance CNC-machined parts , materials, surface finish requirements, and special processes (e.g., anodizing, passivation, NDT).
  • Proficient with CMM inspection tools and software , ideally CMM Manager , and experienced in using a wide range of manual metrology tools (micrometers, indicators, height gages, etc.).
  • Demonstrated success in creating and executing inspection control plans that ensure product conformity and meet customer expectations.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and analytical skills with a focus on team development and continuous improvement.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and experience with ERP (i.e., Fulcrum) and QMS software systems.
