Job Description

Job Title: Procurement Manager

My client is seeking a Manager of Horticultural Procurement to become a part of their expanding team. This role involves overseeing the complete procurement process for horticultural products. The individual will be tasked with formulating and implementing procurement strategies, negotiating supplier contracts, and ensuring a consistent and cost-effective supply of horticultural goods. They will work closely with vendors to build and manage relationships, monitor product quality, and ensure compliance with industry standards. Their efforts will be crucial in maintaining a smooth supply chain, enhancing efficiency, and supporting the organization's objectives in the horticulture sector.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure compliance with safety policies and procedures. Assist with safety investigations and address any hazards or incidents.
  • Lead the recruitment, hiring, and on boarding of new employees. Provide training and development opportunities to enhance team performance.
  • Manage employee performance by setting expectations, providing feedback, and addressing both positive contributions and areas for improvement. Promote a culture of accountability and growth.
  • Foster a positive work environment by recognizing achievements and addressing employee concerns promptly.
  • Oversee the purchasing of plant materials, including issuing purchase orders and reconciling invoices. Ensure alignment with project needs and budgets.
  • Negotiate supplier pricing and delivery terms to secure the best value. Provide updated pricing for special projects and communicate any changes.
  • Source and qualify new vendors to ensure a consistent supply and support project demands. Maintain strong relationships with existing suppliers.
  • Coordinate plant deliveries, managing schedules and updates. Utilize opportunities to increase efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Monitor plant material quality, ensuring products meet standards. Identify and address supply shortages or quality issues.
  • Conduct site visits to vendors, tagging materials and capturing photos for documentation.
  • Maintain accurate purchasing data and system parameters to support forecasting and inventory planning.
  • Evaluate vendor performance and provide feedback. Support internal teams with vendor-related issues.
  • Recommend and implement process improvements to enhance procurement operations. Collaborate with team members to standardize best practices.
  • Stay informed of industry trends and plant availability, including seasonal impacts and market shifts.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in horticulture, with at least 2 years in purchasing and 3 years in a leadership role.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Proficient in computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite and mobile devices.
  • Ability to travel frequently for site visits.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and meet verification requirements.
