Interim Director of Surgical Services

Facility: Animas Surgical Hospital

Location: Durango, CO 81301

Job Type: Interim / Full-Time

Shift Information: Varies

Guaranteed Hours: 40 hours per week

Salary Range: $110,000 – $185,000 annually

(Based on qualifications, experience, and bonus eligibility)

Reports To: Chief Nursing Officer (CNO)

Minimum Experience Required: 4 years of hospital clinical experience, including at least 1 year in a supervisory/management/Charge RN role

Position Summary:

The Interim Director of Surgical Services oversees the Operating Room (OR), Sterile Processing, and Surgical Technology units. This leadership role ensures the effective delivery of high-quality, safe, and cost-efficient surgical care while driving process improvements and maintaining regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

• Coordinate daily surgical operations across departments: surgical team, anesthesia, pre-op, and post-op units
• Set department goals and long-term strategies
• Develop and adjust staffing plans in collaboration with the CNO
• Analyze internal/external data to enhance patient care, efficiency, safety, and cost control
• Ensure compliance with all regulatory and accreditation standards
• Manage departmental budgets and expenses
• Schedule and lead regular staff meetings
• Support team development tailored to individual strengths and learning styles
• Monitor and adjust staffing levels to meet national standards and department needs
• Serve on hospital-wide committees as needed
• Resolve patient, staff, or provider concerns professionally and confidentially
• Lead continuous quality improvement initiatives
• Collaborate across departments to enhance coordination, compliance, and safety
• Uphold hospital mission and values in day-to-day operations
• Maintain strict confidentiality and adhere to hospital conduct policies

Minimum Qualifications:

• Education:
• BSN required or in progress (or higher degree)
• Professional certification in surgical services (preferred)
• Experience:
• Minimum 4 years of clinical hospital experience
• At least 1 year in a leadership or supervisory RN position

Physical & Environmental Requirements:

• Must be able to lift/push/pull 50+ pounds
• Daily stooping, kneeling, or crouching may be required
• Standing or walking more than 5 hours/day; occasional emergency running
• Exposure to hazardous materials including blood, chemicals, sharps, and radiation
• Use of protective equipment may be necessary
• Work may involve proximity to mechanical parts or infectious materials
