Position Description

The Podcast Producer & Editor, Executive Assistant will report to the Executive Vice President and work within the Communications Department to produce, edit, and guide the editorial direction of FIRE’s So to Speak: The Free Speech Podcast. The role will also provide direct administrative and project support to the Executive Vice President.

The duties for this position include, but are not limited to:

Podcast Production and Editorial Responsibilities

  • Serving as producer, project manager, and editor for FIRE’s So to Speak: The Free Speech Podcast.
  • Leading the recording and editing of podcast episodes and related social media content.
  • Booking and coordinating podcast guests, including managing scheduling and communications.
  • Conducting background research and drafting interview questions.
  • Preparing promotional materials such as show notes, transcripts, episode descriptions, and social media copy.
  • Providing feedback and creative input on episode drafts and production elements.
  • Ensuring the Executive Vice President is fully prepared to host each episode and that all production tasks are completed on schedule.
  • Tracking listener metrics and engagement data to help inform editorial and promotional strategies.
  • Reviewing and implementing SEO and digital audience engagement strategies for the podcast.

Executive Support Responsibilities

  • Serving as liaison for the Executive Vice President by managing communications and priorities.
  • Maintaining calendars, uploading expenses, coordinating meetings, and handling confidential correspondence.
  • Taking ownership of special projects to ensure timely and accurate completion.
  • Preparing meeting materials and maintaining organized, confidential records.
  • Assisting with book research and preparation related to upcoming book launches.
  • Performing other duties as assigned to support the Executive Vice President and FIRE’s Communications Department.

This position will also perform other support functions for FIRE's day-to-day operation. It frequently collaborates with other staff members and departments on general duties and specialized projects. This position involves some travel, and occasional evening and weekend work is expected. 

Qualifications

To achieve success, the candidate must be entrepreneurial, organized, and creative. They must also have the ability to work independently and collaboratively and exercise superb independent judgment. Importantly, the candidate must demonstrate a knowledge of and a deep passion for FIRE’s mission. A candidate must also be able to demonstrate:

  1. Ideally, at least 2 years of audio and video recording/editing skills.
  2. Attention to detail and commitment to editorial quality.
  3. Organization, time management, and project management skills under tight deadlines
  4. Research, writing, and communication skills.
  5. The ability to think strategically by assessing trade-offs and making recommendations for potential solutions.
  6. A high degree of professionalism and proper etiquette in phone/email communications.
  7. A sense of accountability and an ability to exercise sound judgment.
  8. The ability to multitask and handle changing responsibilities and priorities.
  9. A commitment to professional ethics and complete discretion with confidential personal and financial information.

Salary and Compensation

The projected salary range is $60-75k based on experience and education level. FIRE conducts periodic evaluations where employees may receive raises or bonuses for outstanding and excellent work. FIRE also offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes employer-paid comprehensive health, dental, and life insurance for employees; a Section 125 Flexible Spending Account option; matching retirement contributions; and a generous paid time-off plan.
