Job Description

FOUR DAYS ON SITE -

We are seeking a detail-oriented Benefits Compliance Specialist to ensure our organization’s employee benefit programs remain fully compliant with all applicable laws and regulations. This role plays a critical part in maintaining the integrity of our benefits offerings, including health and welfare plans, retirement plans, and leave programs. You will be responsible for monitoring regulatory changes, managing audits and filings, and partnering with internal and external stakeholders to ensure full compliance and minimal risk exposure.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor, interpret, and implement regulatory updates related to benefits (ERISA, ACA, HIPAA, COBRA, FMLA, IRS, DOL, etc.).
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws governing group health plans, retirement plans, and wellness programs.
  • Maintain and file all required compliance documents such as 5500s, Summary Plan Descriptions (SPDs), SARs, PCORI fees, and nondiscrimination testing.
  • Collaborate with legal counsel, brokers, vendors, and third-party administrators to validate benefits compliance and resolve issues.
  • Support audits by governmental agencies (IRS, DOL) and lead internal audits to identify and mitigate risks.
  • Partner with HR, Payroll, and Finance teams to implement compliant processes and procedures.
  • Provide guidance and training to internal teams on benefits compliance requirements.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and ensure retention schedules are followed.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 3–5 years of experience in benefits administration or compliance, preferably in a multi-state or large employer environment.
  • Strong knowledge of applicable laws and regulations (ERISA, ACA, HIPAA, COBRA, FMLA, IRS Section 125, etc.).
  • Experience with benefits auditing, government filings, and regulatory reporting.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, organizational, and project management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with HRIS and benefits administration systems.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • CEBS, CBP, SHRM-CP/SCP, or other relevant certifications.
  • Experience working in a publicly traded or highly regulated environment.
  • Familiarity with Workday, ADP, or similar HRIS platforms.
