Head of Human Resources – Fremont, CA (Hybrid: 3 Days Onsite) - must be local

Pre-IPO Biotech | Groundbreaking Science | Clinical Entry 2026

This is a hybrid role based in Fremont, CA, with a requirement to be onsite at least three days per week.

Our client—a dynamic, venture-backed, pre-IPO biotech based in Fremont—is seeking a Head of Human Resources to build and lead a strategic people function as they scale toward clinical development in 2026. You’ll report directly to the CEO and be a trusted member of the leadership team, playing a key role in attracting, developing, and retaining top talent in a science-driven, fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities:

• Build HR from scratch : Design and implement core HR policies, processes, and systems suited for a scaling biotech.
• Strategic Partner : Collaborate with executive leadership to shape company culture, org design, and long-term talent planning.
• Talent Acquisition & Development : Lead recruitment efforts, craft onboarding programs, and develop employee growth strategies.
• Compensation & Benefits : Develop competitive comp/benefits packages, including equity strategy, in alignment with company stage and goals.
• Compliance & Culture : Ensure HR compliance with federal/state employment laws while cultivating an inclusive, high-performance culture.

Qualifications:

• 12+ years of progressive HR experience, ideally with at least 3 years in a leadership role in a biotech or life sciences company.
• Experience in a high-growth or pre-IPO environment strongly preferred.
• Proven ability to build HR infrastructure from the ground up.
• Deep understanding of California employment law and HR compliance.
• Strong interpersonal and leadership skills; strategic thinker with a hands-on mentality.
• Passion for innovation, science, and scaling mission-driven organizations.
